Hi everyone, I have a late 2013 retina macbook pro 13. Last month my wife dropped a bit of water on it. I took it to a local mac technician and he checked it out. All seemed fine but he told me he was going to clean he inside. After he did, my screen seems stained. I don’t know if the cleaner went inside the screen, if the inverter got damaged or if the display went bad in another way. I have been using it for over 3 weeks like this. I can use an external monitor with it without issues. Also, I can use the laptop’s display to search the internet and things that don’t require color accuracy like photo editing, but it’s really bad. I was going to order a display assembly for it, but thought I would look for opinions here first. I have attached a few picks with white background so you can see the problem. The bottom is ok in brightness but the rest is all messed up. Thanks!
That was from the spill, not the technician. The technician cleaned the board, not the screen. The liquid is from the original spill. Even a really, really dumb technician knows there is no cleaning the inside of a screen, nor would they pour liquid inside an LCD. You’ll have to replace the assembly. LCD by itself won’t help because liquid got on the back diffusor layers. Expect cost to be $300 to $400. :(
hdphotoart you can spend a lot of money on the new LCD or you could try to disassemble the complete panel and clean the diffuser etc. Right now you don’t have anything to lose.
I got the same prob to my Mac Pro Ratina right now. I am going to bury it in a sack of rice for the night and see what happens. I will let you know. Someone told me that she did restored her iPhone, after it fell into a bucket full of water, and it worked.
