Hi iFixIt, I have a 2016 Macbook Pro 13 inch Retina Display affected by Flexgate, and it’s currently in the advanced stages now. It’s been repaired before in 2019 (where instead replacing the screen, they gave me a whole new computer and charged me the Apple Flat Rate of ~$500). Now my computer is outside of the Apple Backlight Program’s timeline. Unwilling to pay for another ~$500 repair from Apple that may or may not fix the problem and after having been hung up on by Apple Care discussing this issue, I am turning to you all. Looking at all the screen options and reading several of the Flexgate articles, I see that 2018 models have a longer display cable ribbon and am wondering if a 2018 screen is compatible with a 2016 computer. Does anyone have any knowledge on these parts and their compatibility? I’ve also been looking at the kits sold by iFixIt for the mid-2018 to mid-2019 display and the late-2016 to 2017 display and see that they have listed the compatibility, but when I zoom in and look at the connections, they look the same and am unsure. Please let me know. I look forward to your answers.

Sorry, you can’t use the 2018 display on your system. Apple rev’ed the 2016/2017 display with a longer cable on the replacement displays. There is also a company that offered a longer cable for display rebuilders. This not something you or even I can do as you need some special tools and do a lot of them. So what to do? I would write a note to big Tim giving your story. As you should not have to pay for the repair. Sadly, the window is about to close for your 2017 system. They might offer you a cash rebate or put something to a new system. Make sure to post copies of the repair work orders and and sales slip of the service.
