Hi, I am driving a Ford Transit from 2008 and I keep getting a door open signal from the sliding door when I drive over bumpers or around curves even though the door is closed. When I lock the doors with the light on it closes, but the lights stay on and the horn goes off. What could that be? Greetings, Christian
Hi @destard Sounds like you have a faulty pinswitch in the door frame or the wire connected to it is shorting out to the chassis. The switch is manually released and operated by the door opening and closing Not sure with your model but think that it is located on the right hand side of the door opening. Sometimes the switch gets corroded and goes s/c (short circuit). Switch should be s/c (in released position)when door open and o/c (open circuit when switch pushed in) when the door is closed You need to remove the switch from the chassis and test it with an Ohmmeter to prove that it is working correctly. If the switch is OK then perhaps the wire connected to it is earthed somewhere. The insulation could be rubbed or the wire could be pinched and it is shorting out to the chassis.
There’s a few things to check before blaming the pinswitch. I thought it was my pinswitch as well when it would bing every time I hit a bump and then eventually just stayed on. However, I had someone push the button in while I was in the drivers seat and verified that it worked correctly each time the pinswitch was pushed manually. That led me to realize it was a door alignment issue on the sliding door that was preventing it from fully shutting. There are several videos on youtube, but the general idea is that on the hinge on the back top that suspends the door there is a bolt. Turning it towards the vehicle raises the door, and lowers the opposite direction. Raise the door until the trim panels line up and you can visibly see the latch hitting the striker dead center. Then lower the locking nut to keep it from backing back down. Now your door should shut all the way and the alarm will quit driving you nuts. You will also likely notice that the door no longer squeaks like it has a family of chipmunks living in it when going over bumps.
