My MacBook Pro model 724 (Mac OS X 10.6)keeps having the message popup. “Are you sure you want to shutdown your computer now?” It will shutdown automatically after a certain seconds and the machine will still work as normal after the button “Cancel” is clicked. It is annoying to have this up. Is it a software problem or hardware failure? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like you have something still running so the OS is making sure you don’t want to loose what you have open. As an example I get this message when I have multiple web pages open at the same time and have them minimized in the dock or when I have MS Word with a few open docs again in the dock. Look at the applications in the dock to you see any with a dot in front of them and/or have any documents open? If you do try closing them and see what your system does then when you shutdown. If you can’t see anything open you may need to look deeper into Activity Monitor application. Ideally, you need to have a reference of a known working system to compare against. See if a friend with a similar configuration can run it and output a listing on what is running to compare against.
