Part in question: iPad Air, iPad mini, mini 2, & mini 3 Rear Camera I got a parted iPad for a small display conversion project, and was wondering if I could adapt the camera to a controller board that connects via USB to a computer. Something like the Raspberry Pi cameras but with a USB interface instead of a video ribbon out. Not sure on how to research on this: couldn’t find the OEM part ID, and “iPad Camera USB controller board” returns the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit.

The camera on an iPhone is controlled directly by the CPU, not a camera controller. It does use a 4 pair MIPI interface though so you could look that up. You could also look into Apple patents; they are usually cryptic but can offer some interesting leads for further research. It would certainly be an educational project but not an efficient means of using the camera in a project.
