when i was playing grand theft auto 5 the laptop shuts off in a blink of an eye and theres a burning smell coming out of the cpu fan so then i left the laptop to cool for 10 mins and when i turned it back on and the usb ports doesnt work at all. everything alse works fine except the usb ports. i tried unistalling the usb root hubs and it didnt work. it there a way to fix it?
You need to crack that puppy open and find out what burnt . Pay particular attention to the solder joints and anchors on the USB s on the motherboard The ones on the right side check there wiring. You probably shorted out the usb controller on the daughter-board on the right Disconnect this board and try it . It may work or you may need to replace it to get them all to work . Hope this helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9A7Os3N…
Based on your description, I would guess that something on the motherboard got too hot and it fired a small component for the USB circuit. The burning smell coming form the CPU fan could be the burnt component smoke being expelled. I doubt the CPU fan would be at fault, unless the exhaust vents on the the bottom or sides where blocked. If a computer gets too hot, it will shutdown without warning to try to protect the motherboard. That is a great way to tell if it is getting to hot. If you have any hubs connected, disconnect them and connect just a mouse and keyboard directly to the computer. If this does not work, it rule the cause as hardware. A trip to the local repair store maybe needed.
