The Ifixit-Replacement-Touchscreen of my iPhone 6 does not accept any touch input after upgrading to iOS 11. When I downgrade to iOS 10 it works fine again. What’s the deal? Edit by benjamen50: Note that if you upgrade to iOS 11 with an original screen then switch to aftermarket it should work fine after that for touch screen issue.
We have seen similar issues in the past with aftermarket screens not playing nice with phones during the updating process. At one point we had to install a broken original screen, run the update, then put the new aftermarket back on. This seemed to alleviate the issue. Frustrating but worked at that time. That being said we have not seen anyone with this yet at our shop. You should contact iFixit customer service and see if they have any new recommendations.
Hi, I had this problem. Re installing the old LCD and then back the new one worked for me…
I think what may be happening is after the upgrade to 11, the OS boots and attempts to find all the hardware it is expecting and loads the appropriate drivers or kexts for that hardware. When a third party screens controller isn’t the same that is used by Apple is detected, it doesn’t load that driver. So the touch never works. This would make sense because a fix I’m seeing around the internet that works is to install the original screen with the Apple controller, upgrade to 11, let it load the touchscreen driver, then swap screens. Since the driver had already been picked before hand, it just works with the new screens controller. I might be wrong about this, but it seems like a change Apple made in os 11.
I was going to try to downgrade to 10.3.2 and skipped part of the instructions and i somehow just cleaned the entire phone. When it turned on again “like new” and asked me what language my touch worked again.
Had same problem, you dont need the old screen, just take out your screen and try to power it on without the screen (unplugged) and put the screen on again and turn it on. Try it a couple of times if it doesnt work at first hand, taking it off and plug in it on again while restaring it.
So far, the only solution I have been able to find is to downgrade to iOS 10.3.3. You have to act quickly as Apple will not be signing the 10.3.3 download much longer. If you have a Mac or PC running the latest version of iTunes, you can force it to install iOS 10 on your iPhone. You can find the iOS 10 download here… http://osxdaily.com/2017/07/19/ios-10-3-… I was able to get my iPhone 7plus working again by downgrading. What a waste of a Saturday morning :( Now I’ve gotta go to the Apple Store and beg them to take my money for a OEM screen. ~Chris
I installed a new screen about a week ago and then attempted to install iOS 11 when it became available, which resulted in my touch screen not working at all. I tried a hard restart many times, completely wiped my phone and restored it from a backup to get iOS 10 back. This process let me get my touch screen working again, but obviously not a good permanent fix. I eventually tried the suggested fix of putting my original apple screen back on, installing iOS 11 (I did that without the home button just fine, btw – I got lazy and didn’t want take it off the replacement screen), and putting the new screen back on. I’m happy to report that everything now works! The touch screen is working properly and everything else appears to be working normally. I hope this helps those of you that still have the original screen.
Restoring the phone with the original screen and switching it after doesn’t work. The touch will work for a few mins and then stop. I’m curious why this is only happening for the 6s. I did a 5s and 7 with no issues. From reading online it seems the problem is with the touch IC chip on the aftermarket 6s screens.
Yes that procedure must be followed for 7 series since ios 11. I have done a few since ios 11 no problem Aftermarket screens will work. The problem appears to be just with the 6s. (not sure about 6s plus as I haven’t had one come on yet since ios 11). I’m hearing some after market screens will still work with the 6s but am not sure which ones. From what I understand Chinese manufacturers are aware and already know what needs to be done for the 6s screens to work with iOS 11. I’m sure the new screens that will be coming out of China will work fine. It would be very sick of Apple to prevent 3rd party parts to work on their phones. No other industry does that. Imagine if you could only buy parts for your Chevy straight from the gm dealership and otherwise your vehicle wouldn’t start. As if making like an 800% markup on their phones and all the app store purchases isn’t enough.
Thought I’d add my bit here. Had the same issue, tried a different screen from what was installed (better quality) but same thing. Hard reset - Same thing Put a genuine screen on - works. So installed all the small parts on the damaged genuine screen, fitted it, put in dfu mode and reset/updated to 11.02. Removed the screen, done the usual replacement, and worked….. for 10 seconds. Got into contact of the manufacturer i deal with, and hats off, they responded back promptly late into the evening, and was trying all sorts their end. This is what they sent me: “After upgraded the iPhone to iOS 11.0 (The touch not work) , our factory has tried many times with different methods with different mobile phone this afternoon , and the solve method is upgrade your phone system to iOS 11.02 (Not 11.0 or 11.1) . Also the testing details as below :
- Upgrade to iOS 11.0 : Touch not work . We must replace original or refurbished LCD , then it is ok
- Upgrade to iOS 11.01 : Touch not work . If we make Hard Reset , the touch would be work for few seconds or keep working to the screen power off . Then , the touch not work again and need to hard reset again .
- Upgrade to iOS 11.02 : Touch work good . So we suggest update to iOS 11.02 version .” Done what they said for 11.02 which we a battery pull and power cycle as such, and it worked, until the phone woke up from sleeping. Thus bit threw me off, as I was doing this with the after market screen which the phone originally had on, so swapped it over to the ones I buy off the manufacturer, done it again, and after sleeping/waking/powering off & on. It still works! Hopefully this may help someone with this issue, because this was giving me a right headache, cancelled all other Repairs, and wasn’t sure if my stock was effectively useless!
iOS 11 works well on my 6s so I don’t think the model itself has a problem. I have noticed a couple of glitches on my iPad 4. I’d try to do a factory reset and see if you have the problem without any of your stuff on the phone. If all’s well then try to do a restore from backup.
Well I had another customer today with a non responsive iPhone 7 plus screen after updating last night. The screen she had was installed 6 months ago and had no cracks in it. Anyway I tried several screens and even an OEM apple screen with the same issue repeating itself and the solution I eventually found was changing out the front camera flex. Once I replaced that it worked 100%.
If the touch is unresponsive, reset the Touch ID and reintall the front face camera flex cable, it will okay after you turn on your phone.
Hi, Updating the device to 11.0.2 did the trick in my case! my screens were unresponsive on IOS 11 an 11.0.1, i updated them to 11.0.2 today and the screen are working again. i suggest you guys try it!
11.0.3 fixed it for me
iOS 11.0.3 fixed the issue for Aftermarket screen. Go, upgrade your iPhone 6s. Cheers!
I just changed my iphone 7 screen today ios11.0.2 and my home button and touch id is working fine .Then I get an other update for ios 11.0.3 about an hour later and now I am afraid to update it just incase it bricks it. I will leave it on 11.0.2 for now till I get more info on this new 11.0.3. Saying that it does say it is is a fix for home button probs but I dont have any, so do you or dont you Desisions decisions. Edit: Updated to 11.0.3 2 days ago and everything is still working fine,.Conclusion: It could perhaps be cheap screens that are causing the problem or just your luck when buying a screen. I fitted a AAA screen about £10 -£15 more but in my opinion worth it.
found a solution for who dont have orignal screen and currently in 11. something that make touch screen not function currently. turn off ur iphone 6s, and remove the 4 screws plate, unplug the the only vertical attachment which should be use for home button and front camera connection which also the one u didnt replace . after unplug this one, restart your phone. and this time make take while to come up, anyway once its on the touch screen should work fine now. and now its the time to plug the home button and front camera plug back in , and bang its all good ! let me know if it helped. this is for aftermarket 6s screen replaced and reset for new phone or even updateing new ios. both worked fine for me. hope it save yours as well

- Put your phone into DFU mode.
- Connect your old, broken screen (do not disconnect cable from your computer and phone).
- Restore your iPhone to new 11.0.3 (from .ipsw file).

- Feel good about you touch screen working again!
I got a solution and no need to fix the original screen. it worked on my iPhone 6. and my friend’s iphone 6s I had the same issue. Changed my screen and iphone 6 wont update to ios 11 and would give the error [56] at the end of the update. Went to apple store and they said hardware glitch and replace the phone for $149. The apple genius’s computer gave multiple bullet points as in why this is happening, one of which was unauthorized screen /hardware changes. The solution is remove the sim and update. The phone will update to ios 11 without any issues. Sometimes dont insert even the sim tray. the phone will update alright, issues like touching on reset on the phone will make phone unresponsive, apps like lyft and turo will launch and crash back to home screen after 5 mins. Still looking for solution to that though…
