After successfully installing a SSD (250GB) in the optical drive bay, what should I do with the applications, MacOS, etc. left on the original 1TB hard drive?

Locate the OS installer either on your HDD or re-download it from the Apps Store. Using Disk Utility prep the SSD with a GUID partition with a Journaled file system. Install the OS onto your SSD, then at the end of the installer run the Migration function to move over the User account & Apps (not your data!) Done! Your SSD should now be the boot drive. Make sure your Apps are working.
