I replaced the hard drive (Best Buy also loaded op system) in my Toshiba Satellite P745-S4320 and it turned on properly - with the power button. When I got it home and installed the programs (the original Toshiba aps) the control buttons got really weird–the volume worked, the play/pause turned on the machine but none of the others worked. Presently it is off with no way, I have found to bootup. Is there any assistance out there?

Try removing the battery and power cord for a while then hold the power button down for about 60 seconds with the battery and power cord out then reinstall the battery and try to boot the machine. where you loading drivers ? Sounds like something screwed up the drivers for your keyboard. did you load something that may have been infected with a virus. where all your apps loaded from a safe known source? Are any of the apps capable of taking over control to do auto reboots ?

Well, I feel foolish… With that said, The power button plugs into the mother board from the top, I overlooked it when I put it back together. So, the connection is under the keyboard on the left side just below the pwr button. Toshiba has several apps loaded onto the system and 1 deals with the button - eco, wifi, keyboard lights and media player, I turned them off in the app, so they did not work. I still have no idea why the play/pause button became the pwr button, unless it was default since the pwr switch was disconnected. Anyway, back up and playing World of Warships again…
