Chosen Solution

Hi i would got a problem. After cleaning my ps4, it still produce loud sounds and turns off by itself. I just open the backcover and remove the power supply. Using air duster to clean. Can anyone help me?

Overheating on PS4’s is pretty much never caused by bad thermal paste. You need to remove the motherboard and the bottom metal plate. That’s where the heat sink is located. With it removed from the console you can clean both sides of it (you can only get to one side of it with the power supply removed). You’ll probably find the side of the heat sink near the fan is covered with dust & debris. Give it a good cleaning and clean the fan while you’re in there. When you put it back together apply new thermal paste to the APU. (Any time you remove the motherboard you should apply new thermal paste). Hope this helps.

Does it go loud fan noise straight away when the PS4 turns on then shuts off? Or does this happen after a while when playing games then fan ramps up then shuts off? Usually what needs to be done is the PS4 needs to be cleaned of dust like you said and the thermal paste reapplied because it’s common for PS4s to have bad thermal paste application from factory. We’ve seen it many times when customers bring their PS4 in for the same issue at our repair shop.

I had the same overheating problem,I changed the paste, but the real problem was the dust between the heat sink and the fan….After 5 years of daily usage, there was literally a wall of dust there,no wonder why my PS sounded like a fighter jet ready to roll out…After putting it back together, it’s smooth and silent again, better than new…

I have looked all over the internet for answers for months now, yes cleaning can help a bit, but the actual reason ps4 consoles are ramping up the fans on games like apex and fortnight is because of unlimited fps, it makes the cpu go nuts causing the fan to ramp up, until game developers change this, you u can clean dust change thermal paste buy thermal pads and you will just be disappointed that you have wasted money because this will not fix the issue, the problem is not the console, its the game and how its been set up by developers.

Yes me to cleaned everything inside. Also with new thermal paste . I get the message too hot on *Fortnite *Conan Exiles Call of Duty but the strange thing is **** GTA 5 is the only game where my ps4 is so quiet and relaxed ?? People who have this horrible problem with your PS4 PRO , try to play this game and see if we have the same issue. ( i have GTA 5 on disc ) . My PS4 PRO is even LOUDER then before . Its not to do , and no fun playing anymore on the console. For everybody in this forum , your Playstation is a part of your day, your life, we love all to spend hours on it. And now we have a serious big problem with our console. Lets hope we can find a solution for this. Or hope somebody from SONY can help us to have fun and enjoy their Master piece they created. SONY can also read on these forums where we try to repair our Playstation that is broken . But nobody ever place a reaction what the problem is or can be. For my opinion, I’m very disappointed they don’t help us, We are also people they earn money from every day. I hope it’s gonna change, and that SONY step up for the people they lost their warranty. Or they recommend you to buy a new console in the worst case. Then we know the mentality from SONY I think they still want us to stay with Playstation! ;)

Cleaned my ps4 and it’s still overheating

I did all the recommended suggestions cleaned all dust new thermal past. Ps4 is blowing cool air it’s just the fan is loud.

So I cleaned it out removed the heatsink and everything, also applied new thermal paste any clue why my ps4 is still giving the too hot message and turning off?

I had the issues of the super loud fan and finally while playing Warframe it shut off due to overheating on 4/16/2020 I dust my PS4 Pro once a month so I I just took off the top cover and kept playing because everything was closed. Yesterday we took it apart and replaced the thermal paste and dusted the heatsink and cleaned everything else. Tested it on Modern Warfare and Red Dead 2 for 3 hours straight and it’s been quite ever since to the point I played Warframe for 5 hours straight today and it is was still blowing cool air on a low fan speed.

I’ve cleaned all the dust and replaced the thermal paste but my ps4 still sounds like a jet. How can I fix this?

The only way is clean all throughly, and change the paste and clean all dust, it

I had a similar issue after I replaced the optical drive. The system would immediately go into overheat mode when a game was loading. Streaming services and whatnot were fine, but nothing processor-heavy would work. I applied some arctic silver grease, which may have helped, but I think the orientation of the X bracket that clamps down was upside-down. It seems like the tiny nub in the center should face down to push down on the component below it, but it should actually face upwards. If you’re experiencing the same issue, check the orientation of that piece. It may fix your issue.

I just cleaned my PS4 and as I was cleaning the motherboard a little foam piece fell off and I didn’t think much of it. Now when I turn on PS4 and load up a game it instantly shuts off. I just want to know if the foam piece is the problem?

Tbh I just cleaned my pa4 and only cleaned the fan and heat sink with cutips, and needle to take out lint, I will tell you it doesn’t make any sound anymore AT ALL!!(: and I have cats so believe me when I say that $@$* was dirty af with hair and dust that covered up the heat sink on both sides! And burnt hair at that it was all hard and looks blackish, my wife even told me I should’ve recorded or took pictures of it for reference but I was so focused on the cleaning, and even now she calls on me because she used to be able to hear the ps4 in the next room when I would play for hours (x doesn’t even get the slightest of hot and I can actually feel the cold air on the side of the ps4 from the fan, hope this helps I had only removed the metal plate above the fan and heat sink to clean it so just in case anyone is afraid of breaking anything the way I was you don’t have to take it off to detail as much, Hope this helps, it really helped mine,
