Chosen Solution

My 12-year old son & I were installing a replacement battery for his iPhone 7. We got it all back together and realized that the home button wasn’t working at all. Taking it back apart, we realized that we accidentally ripped one of the ribbon cables while working with it. ☹️ Here’s the specific cable that we ripped - in this picture the upper cable has already been disconnected, showing the lower cable that we ripped:

Is there a replacement for this cable? If not, is replacing the whole display the right solution? I’d love to not spend a ton more money on this, but I’d also like to not break anything else while trying to fix it. It looks like if I have to replace the display, I also have to take the home button off his current display and put it on the new display, right? That looks a little tricky, but I guess I’m already in this far…

Yes you will need to replace the screen. Sometimes no matter how careful you are the flex will tear. The aftermarket screens have stronger flex cables so you shouldn’t encounter this again. And yes you will need to transfer the home button to the new screen, if you take your time you shouldn’t have a problem. Guide
