My MacBook Pro won’t turn on, after a lot of tinkering and testing we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s probably the logic board. I’m on vacation, so I don’t have the tools I need to take the logic board out in the hopes of trying to fix it, and don’t have access to another MacBook. I’ve taken the hard drive out that contains the startup disk, and am able to connect it as an external to my friend’s pc, and we’re wondering if it is possible to access the files / programs on the startup disc via linux knopix. Does anyone have any experience doing anything like this? Thanks in advance.
Sorry to say I don’t think you’ll be able to gain access to the files this way. While there are some Linux distro’s which offer Apple files system access (HFS+) the newer macOS releases from High Sierra onward use APFS and so far no one offers a means to access it. A bit more of the details: High Sierra was only SSD’s, Mojave onward was both HDD’s & SSD’s upgraded to APFS. You really need a Mac system running at least the same OS level your system was using as the older versions of macOS can’t read the newer APFS file system either.
