Samsung p231 dvd player accepts the disc and the door closes but the indicator window shows loading and will not start playing
I am afraid I am not familiar with the Samsung model in particular so I will give you a few general tips that may get you going. 1- Make sure you hear the spindle motor spinning the disk to an even speed. If it seems to be speeding up and slowing down you could have a dirty/bad optical pick up assembly. 2-Try with different DVD/ CD to isolate. Many times it is just the disk is dirty scratched and the player cannot reliably read information from disk. 3-Look for signs of lubricant/dirt on/under the player tray or on disk. I have had optical drive mechanisms spit lubricant and have left an oily film on the pick up unit causing this. 4-Clean the pick up unit. Be very careful with this one as some units are mounted on very flimsy suspension/positioning mechanisms that will break if you look at them cross-eyed. 5-Re-seat all the connections inside. A loose SATA or Data cable may be all that is stopping the information from the disk from getting to the circuit board. 6-Swap the drive with a known good one. Many set-top DVD players use Laptop or PC sized drives with the same connections. I have fixed a couple of Sony set-top players with drives from broken Sony laptops. Hope this at least guides you to a possible solution.
Jon, This sounds like a laser pick up type of issue. What makes the most sense is a bad pressing of the blue-ray and DVD in question. The fact that other DVD/Blu-ray disks work on the player tends to eliminate the player as the issue. You stated the region was correct and the disk is undamaged, also that getting a new copy did not resolve the issue. My suspicions are as follows: The DVD box says it is for the correct region but the disk is not encoded for the region on the box.The polycarbonate material is defective and is filtering the laser light wavelengths and attenuating the signal the pickup is getting to a level that is basically “in the noise” so the device gives up. My suggestion to find the cause is to try the non-functioning disks in another player or on computer with a DVD drive that is compatible with the disk. (DVD or Blu-ray) Please note that I have had a computer tell me that the disk is from the wrong region where a set top device just wont play the disk. One last thing comes to mind. See if the DVD player has any updates available for it. I had a Sony Blu-ray DVD player awhile back that was very picky on what disks it would play. I found an update setting in the main menu tried it and it resolved the issue.
Discs will not play , when a new disc is put in
That might error happens to your DVD contents, the only solution that I know is to rip them from DVD via TuneFab DVD Ripper.
Not tried a different disc yet. dvd seems ok one initial spin the all quiet
Mine does the same thing, but only with this one disc. I replaced the disc with an exchanged disc from the store, but even that one doesn’t work.
We have just the same as @katelynnlingle! Player has won’t play 2 specific disks, one of them blu-ray and one DVD. Took blu-ray back to shop and replacement is just the same. Both appear to be correct region and undamaged, have used lens-cleaner on player, and has played other disks (including ones bought since) with no issues. What do you think the problem might be?
I had the same problem and followed advice from Peter above and it worked. Go to the settings on your player and update the software. I had a new dvd that wouldn’t play, got a replacement, then a second replacement. All other DVDs worked fine but this one movie wouldnt. Now it does!
You can: ▪ Try another disc to check if the DVD player is dirty or there are bad lens and mainboards. ▪ If a car portable DVD player is not loading discs, check the tin ribbon wire that connects the optic lens and the mainboard. ▪ Check if the problematic disc is dirty or scratched. And fix the scratched DVD using toothpaste, peanut butter, Vaseline or copy the scratched DVD into video files. ▪ Check if the DVD is region coded, otherwise strictly protected, or improperly burned and decrypt the DVD if necessary.
I have an Insignia IS-DVD100121 player/recorder which is working perfectly except it would only initialize about 1 in 10 new HP DVD-R 10X discs. Used a disc lens cleaner and removed the cover and wiped the disc lens with a cue-tip with alcohol. Neither solution worked well. Read a suggestion that it may be better to change the discs to 4X and bought a Staples brand which has solved the problem! Fast initialization on every disc!
If RW disc just sits there and is LOADING - NOTHING FURTHER HAPPENS could it be that Disc wasn’t finalized?Disc was loaded into a Phillips DVD player that plays many formats including + & - RW.Plus the Phillips unit works perfectly with DVD Movies.
