Is it possible to use a 85w on a Macbook Pro 13 inch (early-2011) that does not have a battery. I would like to run it on AC only. I am currently using the original 60w charger and the Macbook does not turn on if there is no battery. I am not sure if the 85w will help in this case. Does anyone have experience with this?
I have an 85watt mag-safe on my bench. I use it to power any Mac-book that comes in. It have an end adapter for the newer machines. Some MacBooks need a battery installed for little extra boot power but most 13" machines will boot just fine. The link XTerminal give says, “You can use a compatible higher wattage adapter without issue, but it won’t make your computer charge faster or operate differently. Lower wattage adapters will not provide enough power.” You date and time my be lost without the battery if left unplugged for a while.
No Mac books use the battery for main power, and the charger alone does not power the device.
