i had a customers 8 plus brought in requesting a new screen and charging port. I have installed the new screen and charging port all went well, i turn the phone on and plug it in to charge and it clips in with no worries and makes the ding charging sound right away but in the top right beside the battery % no charging symbol appears and the phone just gradually drains battery from being idle. i pulled the battery out and have placed a new one down and ah huh! its now showing a charging symbol and the battery charge is going up! i’ve left it it at 8% and gone back 20 minutes later and its back to 1% and not charging at all.. i’ve then removed the board and put a brand new charging port in to have the exact same issue. My knowledge isn’t the greatest, but this is a board level issue, right? thanks for the read.
This has all the classic signs of a Tristar (Hydra on the IP8) issue. This can be caused by using a low quality or dollar-store charger or car adapter. You are correct that this requires a micro-soldering repair but it is certainly worth it for such a recent and high value device.
