Chosen Solution
Hi there, I‘m currently upgrading my 2017 5K iMac (CPU etc.). I have all parts disassembled and only have the aluminum housing in front of me. I also planed to change the normal stand to VESA mount. Sadly, it seems like the original hinge does not support the old original VESA mount adapter from Apple cause the hinge is not able to flip out the housing. Now I thought about getting an old 2011 27” iMac hinge which works with VESA mount adapter and just replace it. On the pictures the older hinge has more screw holes as the new one. My question: Does anyone know measurements of both hinges and if the old one could fit the new iMacs holes?! 5K iMac Inside:

It’s a fair amount of work! Here’s the needed parts VESA Mechanism Plate (923-0532)VESA Tongue screws x8 (923-0334)VESA Tongue (923-00084)VESA screws x2 (923-0418)VESA Plate (923-00082) Behind the logic board remove the screws
First you need to take the 8 screws out (Light Blue) then the 6 screws holding the hinge (Orange) carefully lift off the hinge. Once the hinge is clear you can then put the VESA plate on reusing the 6 screws.
Then mount the tongue on with the 8 screws
Lastly mount the VESA plate on using the VESA screws
You’ll need to find a friend within an authorized service center willing to order the parts for you.
Inexpensive (albeit temporary) solution I came up with last night: Pros: Immediately solves problemInterim solution while deciding which repair options you wish to take Cons: Tilt of screen fixed at one angle (not adjustable)
I have Apple Care, but I don’t have time to wait days or weeks for it to be fixed as this is my main work computer.
