My phone quit charging when it’s turned on. If I shut it off, it charges fine (but slow), but I use it enough that I charge it a couple times a day.. so shutting it off means I miss calls mid-day. I replaced the battery & pentalobe screws with the kit from ifixit, but my problem remains (although the new battery gives me longer life between charges). Could it be the dock? I figured if the dock was bad it wouldn’t charge at all, but since it charges when powered off maybe the dock is fine & I have an internal board issue. I’d hate to lose the info on the 4s, and I cant back it up because itunes wont recognize it when plugged into my laptop… just says “unrecognized USB device”, tried Apple & aftermarket charging cords (and they all work fine on my ipad). Not sure if it’s related or not but it all occurred about the same time, after I dropped it (but its in an Otterbox case).
replace the charging port
I changed the docking connector but no luck, the problem persists. Is there anyone out there that has any advise?
hi I have the same issue and the docking port was buy from Ifixit, my iphone is 4S.
I also have an iPhone 4S that only charges when it’s turned off and is not recognized by iTunes. I just replaced the dock port and that didn’t fix the problem. Phone broke when I tried wiring a USB cable and got the polarity backwards. From my reading, it seems possible that either the replacement dock connector was bad (cheap part from China) or the logic board needs to be replaced. Something about the logic board having a small fuse that may have been blown. Post if you figure it out.
I replaced the battery, I replaced the docking connector (in a service store), I already made a reinstall. Sometimes it charges, sometimes not. If it recognizes a new device where it’s charged from, or a new cable, it works fine for the first time. After that it doesn’t charge neither. This problem seems to be a software problem for me. I’ll try a clean install maybe this week. A total factory reset. And installing all my apps and contacts manually, not from backup. Let’s see what happens. Another additional info: my iPhone 4s is 4,5 years old, I already replaced display and power button a year ago and worked/works properly except of this new issue.
