MacBook Pro 1229 Model Identifier MacBook Pro 3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz I replaced one slot with a 4 GB RAM Chip PC2-5300 while the other slot still has its old 2 GB RAM. The system only shows the 2 GB while saying that the other slot is blank/empty? Is this normal? Thanks Leo31
Standard RAM: 2 GB Maximum RAM: 6 GB* Details: 2 GB installed as two 1 GB modules. No slots free. *Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module. Try using just the four GB stick in each of the slot and see if will read in both slots. Try switching the sticks, use only PC2-5300 DDR2 made for Macs.
