Hello! I just repaired my first two iPads. Both are 9.7” 5th generation A1822. In both I have the same problem: The iPad is not recognizing the home button. The new screens I ordered both already had home buttons on them so I just used them. Do I have to use the original home button for it to work?
The 5th generation iPad includes a touch ID sensor that is within the home button and it’s logically paired to the logic board. To retain function the original home button has to be transferred to the new screen.
As your direct question Yes! You need to replace the home button with the one that came with the iPad as this iPad uses TouchID. Be very careful if you damage it you’ll need to get it repaired by an Apple Store as they are the only ones that can re-program the button.
