hello, some keys no longer work on my macbook pro a1286 15 inch….i looked at some on ebay but they have 2008 2009 ones…would those work for 2011? :S
Please forget about the 2011 machines. Your’s is a 2009. You will need to replace the top case, Apple part number 661-5244. Nope! There are function keys on it that don’t correspond properly with the ones you have. Sorry! :| Surely, though, you still have an Apple warranty on your Mac. A 2011 model is very new. Why don’t you look up your serial number here on Apple and find out what type of support coverage you have. If the MacBook Pro started giving you trouble on its own, then Apple will gladly fix it for free if you’re still under warranty. (Did you buy Apple Care?) It’s worth noting, however, that if you damaged your MBP by spilling some liquid on it, it’s highly unlikely that replacing the keyboard will solve your problem. It could very easily be logic board damage. . . . Frightfully. :(
i realize this thread is a bit old, but i will say that i bought a keyboard ONLY from dhgate for about $25 and $20 shipping for my 2008 unibody and installed it myself. i even added colored film to reduce the LUDICROUSLY TOO BRIGHT backlight and break the keys into groups (yellow for alpha, blue for numbers). it is totally doable and in-addition if just a couple keys aren’t working that is usually from liquid intrusion and can be fixed on a key-by-key basis (did it on my computer after an entire glass of milk was dropped on my computer).
@Andrew - Hey, do you have an instruction for your repair? I have the same problem with my computer, liquid intrusion, couple of keys aren’t working, everything else is fine and it would be great to work around replacing the whole upper case. What do you mean by “key-by-key” - did you split the keys and integrate them into the old keyboard? Thanx!
