Hey everyone. I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro “17 A1297 with a backlight that isn’t working. I was working on the laptop when the backlight cut out. Here is what I’ve done so far: Reset SMC = Nothing Plugged into an external display: Image is shown on the external display and the primary is shown in system preferences. Tested Backlight Fuse: Backlight fuse has continuity. ‘‘‘Test for shorts: Tested for short circuit using the advice from No backlight, fuse blown? Works fine except backlight! A1398 Nothing looks wrong on the board and there isn’t anything obvious to me to suggest anything wrong. Before I blow a lot of money I wanted to see what others would think of the situation! Thanks so much!
If the backlight fuse is alright I personally would wean towards the screen being kaput or a wonky backlight pin. If it works fine with an external display that is also good news. Either there is a backlight pin issue or a screen issue. Here is how you would repair the backlight pin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOhX95k-… Here is how you would replace the screen (the only part condition is B stock) MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early-Mid 2009) Display Assembly MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Display Replacement
