I have to replace the motherboard on this after breaking the LCD display attachment. It’s going to cost about the same to replace with the same motherboard w/o CPU vs buying a replacement motherboard with an i5 CPU for a 2011 27 iMac. Since they look like they are the same form factor, can I just buy a motherboard for a 2011 27" iMac and stick it in my 2009 iMac 27" iMac? Are the other components compatible? Will there be issues with the GPUs? thanks.
If the logic boards were able to be swapped the processors would not present a problem…I see an ‘09 as aniMac10,1 while ‘11 is an iMac12,2. I would contact the vendor before purchase and see if they confirm the swap, and guarantee it. Your old HD might be a problem, the ‘09 was SATA II the ‘11 is SATA II (but SATA is backward compatible-however sometimes theory and reality don’t intersect as predicted) and there’d be firmware updates necessary after you got the machine booted. I had an issue with one of the sensors that is not on the older motherboard (2009) Still can’t figure it out how to solve it, otherwise everything else works perfectly.
09 motherboard broken, can I replace to quad core 2011 motherboard?
If you don’t have a big difference in the price of a new one, think of a new one. https://basketballlegends.fun
