Hello, My MacBook Pro A1708 won’t wake up from sleep after closing and opening up the lid. The Keyboard lights up and the touchpad clicks but the screen stays black. The only way to get it to show a picture is to reset the smc. (I actually don’t have to hold the keys for 10s). If I do so it goes straight to the login screen without the booting apple logo. When I shut it down completely it won’t start without resetting the smc. (I have to hold the keys for 10s) I’ve already tried resetting the nvram and disabling hibernate and sleep mode. I’ve reinstalled macOS. When I connect the charger the problem seems to occur not that often but still sometimes. Battery has 600 cycles and seems to be in normal condition according to apples system report. What could cause this problem? Thank you! Update (05/31/2022) Hi, Here’s a picture of coconutBattery:

Im going to disconnect the battery cable and see if the problem still occurs. Update (06/06/2022) Hi, So the problem still occurs even with the battery completely disconnected from the board and the MacBook only running on the external power supply. One thing I noticed is that sometimes when the screen stays black the backlight of the screen just didn’t light up. With the help of a flashlight I can log in without problems. Sometimes I can’t see anything on the screen even with a flashlight. Plugging in an external Monitor as well as the power adapter sometimes helps. @danj The problem still occurs even with battery percentage of 100%. It seems that the battery percentage has no influence.

Hi Iv seen this issue on YouTube somewhere and they replaced the battery and it seems to fix it If this is a bit out of reach make sure your t2 settings are in secure boot and make sure that your system know what your boot drive is ,is it doesn’t know what the boot drive is it can cause strange problems like this If you need any help please ask Hopefully this answers your question Thanks:-)

@jonboom - I got some good news! Your battery just isn’t fully charged so when its this low (Red line) the system will go into deep sleep so you don’t loose your work. The bad news ;-{ Is you are expecting more from your system than it can offer! You likely run the battery fully down before recharging. You need to change your habits here letting the system fully charge and then try to plug in more often not letting the battery drip below the 1/3 mark. That way you don’t hit SMC’s sleep & deep sleep states. I would start there and I would also reset SMC after you’ve allow the system to fully recharge (giving it good 20 hours plugged in) Update (06/06/2022) @jonboom - I think we are chasing the wrong issue! This is not a battery issue its a display issue! Your backlight power logic and/or the ribbon cable is damaged if you can see the screens image using a flashlight. This issue was first discovered with the TouchBar models as the ribbon cables on the 2016/17 models where a bit short so as you flexed the display it would stress it. This will need deeper skills to properly diagnose and repair.
