Chosen Solution

Hi all, I recently changed the battery, hard drive, hard drive cable and RAM on my macbook pro. Unfortunately though the sleep light that pulsates on the front of the mac is no longer working. Moreover, the computer now suddenly switches off from time to time. When it does this there is no warning, nor is there an error report upon switching the computer back on. Sometimes it’s when the computer is starting to run low (for example it just happened now with the battery at 20%). Other times however, it happens when the battery is almost full, for example it seems to take a very long time to charge full and a few days ago after hours charging, the battery was at 60% when it suddenly just switched off. I turned the computer back on and suddenly it was reading 98%. There are a few other odd things going on related to this but I don’t want to bore you with an essay. Let me know if there’s any additional info you need that will help clear this up. It’s really disappointing to have this new problem appear after all the upgrades/repairs I’ve made and the time and money invested. I’ve installed coconutBattery and that seems to give the same battery status reading as the mac. Thanks in advance for any help! EDIT: I should also add that I’ve already done an SMC reset a couple of times and also I’ve reset the PRAM. Unfortunately, the problems have not been solved. 2nd EDIT: screenshot shows battery stats after charging (after computer last switched itself off)

Update (04/08/2020) An update regarding this as unfortunately I still have the problem: I was finding many posts here on IFIXIT and elsewhere on the web regarding the same issue. Laptop suddenly jumping down from a relatively full percentage to critically low (always confirmed by coconut battery). I was also reading that there seem to be many batteries out there that are faulty/not compatible, so I had it replaced by IFIXIT. This hasn’t corrected the issue unfortunately…and I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve reset the SMC. I’d like to mention that I also have the issue that when the laptop switches off, due to the battery being too low, it often completely dies, so that even after being plugged in I have to wait some time till the laptop will respond to my attempts to switch it back on. I then get the message that the computer switched off because of a problem (though there is no report or explanation given as to what this problem was). Are there any logs or info I could share that would help you work out why this is happening? I’ve looked at the logs and there is some mention of a bug; for example: 8. Apr 2020 at 14:37:06 cfprefsd[260]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[mach_recv] monitored resource vanished before the source cancel handler was invoked I have no idea what any of this means though… It’s getting extremely frustrating and I’m worried that each time the laptop dies like this it’s risking damaging my hard drive/files. Thanks to anyone who can provide any support here.

That can explain the Sleep Indicator LED not lighting. It doesn’t explain the shutdown aspect. Often times over stressing of the cable by sharp folds can damage the cable. So Yes you likely need a new cable but lets finish drilling down to the root issue before we do that.
