Should I upgrade my standard early 2011 macbook pro (2.3 GHz Intel Cor i5, 4 GB Ram, 500gb HD) to High Sierra or Sierra? Or should I keep it on El Capitan? Please throughly explain why. I’d like to know! Thanks!

So far apps are supporting both so there’s no reason to jump yet. As from a hardware perspective High Sierra still has issues with SATA based SSD’s so if you currently have a SSD in your system I would stay with Sierra. Keep in mind the format of the SSD drive will be modified to APFS when you upgrade and that will prevent you from using some 3rd party drive utilities.
