So I have (Had?) an iphone 5. I suffered a faulty battery with expansion, so I was going to get it replaced, my local apple repair location quoted me 80 to fix the issue. I was sent a link to a replacement kit and a video showing how to do it. I said sure quarter of the price? Why not. It was a big mistake. The video I watched has the person prying on the logic board side, and I had not learned this was bad yet. I made at least one mistake and I think I broke at least two major parts, first I did pry damage on the board. In my looking at the phone I figured out it was just the U3 jumper that was damaged however I only saw 4 out of 6 leads on the board so I think the whole logic board needs to be replaced. I got this answer from counting the jumpers it was the 2nd from the bottom of the phone that was damaged. Also, when I removed then re screwed down the plate covering the ribbon cables to the screen I think I pinched something when I re screwed down the plate, since now my screen is unresponsive and has big white bars on the top of it. Though since the phone is stuck in recovery mode that’s not much of an issue. From what I am seeing it would be a logic board replacement which is 185, and a screen replacement which would be another 75 so if I did it myself I would be paying 250 to fix what was a free phone that was a hand-me-down. I have a 4s that should work perfectly, is it even worth trying to fix the 5 at this point? Thank you for reading and I could really use the advice.
@warior4356that is a difficult question to answer. If there are parts broken on the logic board, it will require soldering. Unless you know how to do that and have the tools, you may either send the board off and have it done or replace it. This alone makes it not a feasible repair. The display assembly can be had for cheaper so that would not be an issue. It will depend on how much money you are willing to spend. There comes a time where we have to make the decision of just calling it quits.
