The top part of the screen looked normal, the bottom half of the screen looked like it was faded. After an hour or so the whole picture went out. Not I have no video but the sound works. Any ideas what could be going on here?
Shine a flash light (torch) on the screen to see if you can observe a valid picture. If you can then more than likely you have a backlight problem.

After an hour or so the whole picture went out” could be a backlight issue but the fading most commonly originates from the T-con board. If the flashlight test will show the menu etc. You will have to check the power board first. If it does not, check the T-con board. Once you are ready to check deeper, remove the back on your TV and look at the boards for obvious damage. Post some good pictures with your question so that we can see what you see.
