Hi all, I have a service battery message on my 2015 MacBook 12’ after I had left it in the kitchen yesterday when the temperature in the UK was -1 during the night! I specifically remember turning it off at 70% and putting it in its case. The normal working battery health for it is around 80% but when I woke up it was dead, I plugged it in and it said it was on 0%, and checking the battery health showed it was at 21%! I took it into the living room and put it next to the heater. After 10 mins I went and the battery health was back up to normal but there is still the service battery message, I reset the SMC multiple times but to no avail, and the message is still there. I am on the latest version of Mojave and have attached screenshots of my battery health, etc
Any help is greatly appreciated on how to remove the message
You very may well need a battery - they do not like to be in freezing environments like that, so it wasn’t very good for it. I’m going to tell you how to try and fix it, but be prepared for the worst. What you may be able to do to potentially recover it is to try recalibrating it - sometimes it works to save these batteries, other times it does not. Refer to this guide for some general instructions, but keep in mind it isn’t possible to drain the Mac batteries to 0% and go from 0->100% like with most PCs (with or without a workaround).
