I purchased my SEIKI SC55UK700N new from Walmart. 91 days later.. literally 1 day after the return policy expired (I thought I purchased the warranty), I turned the TV on and it made a popping noise and the screen turned off. The TV is plugged in and no longer has a red “on” light like it used too. Any suggestions? Is this fixable? I contacted the company and they told me to ship it to them at my expense. Yeah right!
Hi, When you say that you contacted the company, do you mean Walmart or Seiki? If you haven’t contacted Seiki: Try contacting them on 1-888-777-5956 and ask if there are any authorized Seiki service agents in your area, which you can take the TV to for a warranty repair so as to may make it easier (and cheaper) for you. Ensure that you have the TV model number, TV serial number and proof of purchase information just in case they ask for it. If you have already contacted Seiki: No red standby power light and popping noises beforehand are indicative of a power board problem. Was there a storm or a power outage just before the TV failed? Since with a warranty repair the shipping cost is most probably too expensive, you may as well disconnect the power from the TV (if connected) and then remove the back cover and check the power board for any obvious component damage, such as blown or bulging capacitors, burnt out or heat stressed resistors, diodes etc and also any fuses that may have blown. If there are or you’re not quite sure, post some close up images of the power board back here. Here’s how to do this on ifixit. Adding images to an existing question Update (07/10/2020) Hi @Brittany Simon The only thing that looks vaguely wrong is that the black, power input cable on the left side of the power board as shown in the image below appears to be half unplugged. You will notice that the bottom of the cable plug is resting against the board connector’s stop lug whereas the top of the cable plug is back from its’ stop lug i.e. not pushed home, so I’m wondering if it is not making proper contact with that pin in the connector.
(click on image to enlarge for better viewing) If pushing home the cable plug, doesn’t solve the problem, (you may have to release the cable if it is taped to the chassis to lessen the tension on the plug so that it stays in straight), use an Ohmmeter to check if the fuse marked F1 T5AH 250V (just above the black cable) is OK for a start, (also done with the power disconnected from the TV) ————————————————IMPORTANT————————————————————– Be safety aware, exposed lethal voltage is present at that exact point on the power board when the TV is plugged into the wall outlet - so do this with the TV power cord unplugged from the wall outlet. ———————————————————————————————————————————— The popping noise may have just been the speakers making this sound when the power was cut off suddenly rather than a component failing which is usually suspected when a “pop” is heard.
