Chosen Solution
Hi! I’ve got a problem, and i hope someone can help me out. Since a few weeks, my MacBook Pro (mid 2012 version) has the following issue. All of a sudden the screen freezes, after a few seconds bar code like black bars show on the screen (see picture), and then it shuts down. Most of the time it immediately restarts automatically after this happened.
In the beginning (a few months ago) it happened only once every 3 weeks or so, but in the last 2 weeks it has happened several times a day. Today it happened 3 times in 30 minutes. After the last shut down, it restarted automatically again, but the black bars already showed up during the Apple logo startup screen and then it shut down again. I didn’t try to restart it after that. Sometimes it doesn’t restart automatically, and when I try to restart it manually, it gives 3 beeps, 5 sec pause and 3 beeps again. I found out this has something to do with the RAM memory, so I reseated it, but that didn’t help. Some history and what I’ve tried so far: about 8 months ago it restarted spontaneously and it showed the message ‘your computer restarted because of a problem’. Since then, this happened several times (about once every month). I installed all updates, but it still happened. And as I described above, since about 3 months these new problems came up. Since then, it never showed the ‘your computer restarted because of a problem’ screen anymore. After shut down, it seems to restart normally. It also happens when I’m just surfing on the Internet or writing an email, so I don’t think it has to do anything with using demanding programs. What I’ve tried so far:
- installing all available updates
- reseated my RAM memory (I found a video on the Internet saying it might have something to do with loose contacts)
- started it in Recovery mode and performed First Aid analysis
- started in safe mode. The problem seemed to be solved in safe mode, but when I started it in normal mode again, the problem reoccurred I really hope someone can help me out with this. Any help is much appreciated!
If this is not happening in Safe Mode, then it is a software issue or possible virus. I would back up my documents, Reformat the Drive and use the “write zeros” option to map out any bad blocks and reinstall a system.
