My girlfriend dropped her MacBook Pro and you can see dents from it but the screen is not cracked. Anyways, the screen doesn’t seem to work. Even with a flashlight, I see nothing. The laptop boots up fine and after opening it I did not see anything cracked or loose on the inside of the laptop. When I try hooking it up to an external monitor it doesn’t not detect the laptop. I have tried quickly shutting the laptop with an external monitor looked up and have external keyboard and mouse but no avail. Pressing F7 does nothing but make a noise like it can’t detect another monitor. Any ideas?
You may be able to get to the hard drive via Target Mode. Hook it up to another Mac using a firewire cable. Start this one up holding down the “T” key. Personally I’d back up her User folder right now. Next open Disk Utilities in Applications> Utilities and repair the hard drive. The fact that you cannot see an external monitor is serious. Hook up the other Mac (you did locate one, right?) to your external monitor set up to make sure it’s working. Let us know your findings.
