So I was replacing the screen and the battery both parts from iFixit. I replaced the screen before on this phone without a problem but when I did the repair this time, the home button was not working but the Touch ID was. At the beginning of the repair after i powered it on to test function, the home button was working based on the taptic engine going off and it exiting apps but then pulled up an error and put in the digital home button and wouldn’t work after that except for touch id. May or may not be relevant but when I would power up the phone and put in a password, the top right of the logic board where the top connector is would get very hot then cool back down. I don’t know if it is normal or not but just thought I’d add that information to see if it helps. Thanks!

That is not normal if that is the connector for the front camera (FCAM) assembly then I would assume there is a tear on that cable that is causing a short circuit which in result heats up the connector. That can also be why the home button is not functioning properly so try unplugging FCAM after turning off phone and unplugging battery and see if the home button starts working normally without it plugged in. If yes the front camera assembly needs to be replaced. iPhone 7 Plus Front Camera and Sensor Cable Replacement iPhone 7 Plus Front Camera and Sensor Cable
