I recently purchased a JVC LT-43CA790 android TV in place of my old Panasonic VIERA to which I’d successfully attached a Samsung HW-R530 sound bar about 2 years ago. The attachment to this old set was via one of the 2 HMDI sockets, Seeking to transfer this bar to my new JVC, I noted the enclosed diagram for the JVC showed the same HMDI ports and plugged into one. I also attached a new Humax FVP-5000T recorder to the other HMDI port. After turning on the sound bar and switching the TV sound to outside source it was immediately obvious there was no difference in the quality. I first checked the bar connection was correctly connected at HMDI TV OUT ARC. Thinking I needed to switch over the sound bar and recorder plugs, as I turned the TV round, I noticed another HMDI socket not shown in the diagram marked ARC. Believing this was the issue, I plugged the sound bar into this one…..but it made no difference. I also tried an optical connection but this made no difference. To test matters I’ve since connected the bar to an older LG 24MT49S TV with just 2 HBDI sockets which resulted in no sound when switched to external mode. And have also reconnected to the old Panasonic which now only performs as the JVC. I guess my question is, have I ruined the sound bar and possibly the JVC as a result of my initial mistake in connecting to the wrong HMDI socket or is there a solution? Many thanks PS. I’m 77 and not very IT literate!
Hi @rogeranerley, To prove that the soundbar may be still working to a degree, assuming it is turning on, try connecting an audio source to the stereo AUX IN jack on the back of the soundbar (see p.15 of the user manual) to see if the soundbar still works albeit not via HDMI or optical at the moment. Looking at the image in the manual, it appears to be a standard 3.5mm stereo jack so if you have a 3.5mm stereo audio cable (example only to show plugs at both ends of cable) you can connect a mobile phone using the cable from the phone’s headphones jack to the soundbar and play music on the phone and check if it comes out the soundbar or even connect the cable to the headphones jack in your new JVC TV (see p.10 in the TV user manual for location). Be sure to set the TV audio back to internal sound. With the cable plugged in, the TV speakers should stop and hopefully the sound will be on the soundbar. If there is still no audio from the soundbar something is wrong with it. It may have been due to you swapping cables with both devices i.e. TV and soundbar still powered on (if this is what you did). It is not advisable to hot swap HDMI cables. It is better to turn off both devices, switch the cables etc and then turn them both on again. Does the HUMAX recorder work OK on the TV’s other HDMI port?
