Our Galaxy s7 will not boot up, has 0% battery and will not take a charge (plug or wireless). It will also keep flashing the starup “Samsung” screen & vibrate over and over like it is trying to restart. We have tried all recommendations we could find online, and we decided to take the phone apart to look for any corrosion. The battery is fine. Please see attached photos. There does seem to be signs of moisture getting in around the camera lens, and there is a spot on the circuit board near the lens(lower right) which looks like corrosion or a short. Everything else inside looks clean and normal. My father is an electrical engineer and said to clean the corrosion gently with an eraser. My wife is worried about me damaging something and making her photos disappear. Does anyone with real knowledge have an opinion on this? Do you concur? Does cleaning the corrosion with an eraser sound like a good idea/possible solution? Thanks!
@jwthurst using an eraser would most certainly rub off some of the smaller components on your board. I suggest that you remove the board and clean it with +90% and a soft brush (very soft toothbrush works well). Do no scrub to hard or you’ll remove the components. Of course if you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner use that instead. Once cleaned, re-evaluate the damage. Right now it looks like you have to replace C4050 on the right side of the camera. That is a 10uF,20%,6.3V,X5R, capacitor in a 1005 package Update (09/12/2020) That does not sound like C4050 is the issue. Since you said your phone vibrates when you are trying to start it up, it is possibly the display assembly that does not work. Check the flowchart and see what you can find. Also, even so you said your battery is good, replace it just to make sure. That way you have a know-well starting point.
