Chosen Solution

Hello, I have a samsung front loading washer model WF42H5200AF/AS. Recently I noticeda knocking sound when spinning at high speed, and a few days ago the washer stopped doing the spin cycle as it would start to wobble uncontrollably and constantly reset the cycle. I researched as much as I could and found the most likely solutions to be worn out bearings or a broken spider arm, or maybe the shocks. I suspected it might not be the bearings because there was little movement if i tried to shift the metal drum when it was all together and it spun manually pretty smooth with little noise. With the day off I decided to see if I could figure it out. I finally got everythign disassembled and got to the spider arm and it seems fine. Theres a lot of goop on it from use but no like serious corrosion and trying to put pressure on it on various points doesn’t seem to have any give. I don’t really know how to check the bearings. The 2 sets seem to spin fine, and if i put the spider arm back in the outer drum while it’s open and try spinning it there isn’t any real wobble. So now I’m looking at the shocks. A video i watched said that good shocks should be really tough to pull apart, and bad ones it should almost slide out on it’s own. Mine are definitely not hard to pull the pin out of, maybe the effort required to pull apart taffy, and i even had my 6 year old do it.

So at this point I have to pick something to replace before i have to put it back together (replacing them all would be almos hte cost of a new washer!). Do you think shocks are my best bet at this point?

Brian Dial this is a tough one to answer remotely. Just based on this “Mine are definitely not hard to pull the pin out of, maybe the effort required to pull apart taffy, and i even had my 6 year old do it” I would go with the shocks. Do not forget to check the washer motor and rotor. I had a bad rotor on my Kenmore and I thought it was going to tear apart the washing machine. Wore out splines on the rotor would be a good indicator that it has wore out.
