I bought an Insignia (Best Buy private label) brand 30-pin USB cable to charge the Samsung tablet. I also used a 2A charger from Acer. After one hour of charging, the tablet failed to boot properly. The splash screen appeared, disappeared, and was replaced by the animated charging icon in the middle of the screen. I went into Recovery Mode (Power + Vol Down), cleared the cache partition and rebooted. The tablet behaves as expected, but the battery icon in the lower right has a red X through it. The tablet may have been purchased originally in Europe. The language setting was set for French. The Android version is 4.1.2 and I believe this is the stock ROM. Updates were set to be installed automatically. Do I have a dead battery or another issue which needs to be addressed?
Does the tablet stay on when you unplug it? If it doesn’t then most likely the battery is bad. You should also look in the charging port and see if any of the pins are bent. It is possible that the cord or the brick you have is bad as well. If the tablet does stay on when you unplug it I would try to wipe it back to factory settings and see if that does the trick for you. Make sure you back up your data before you wipe it though. There’s no way of getting back after you click the button! Best of luck and post if you need anymore help!
Had the same problem. Would charge when off but very slowly. When you try to charge when on, it would consistenly show the red cross. Solution: use a 3A adapter. 2A is not enough.
