I bought a broken iMac 27” late 2015. The Chipset of the iMac is unfortunately broken,
the iMac is not turning on and none of the Diagnostic LEDs are lighting up. Now i need a replacement Chipset for the iMac, but i do not know which one is the right one. I have found the right one only on one site, but its very expensive . The site is UnionRepair and the BGA Chips Name is: “GL82H170 SR2C9 BGA Chip”, here is the Link (https://www.unionrepair.com/gl82h170-sr2...). I have also found on AliExpress BGA Chipsets that i think should work with this iMac, one is “GL82Z170 SR2C9”, here is the Link (https://aliexpress.com/item/32785156000….) and the other one is “GL82H170 SR2C8”, here is the Link (https://aliexpress.com/item/32782313840....). I know that the iMac has the H170 Chipset and not the Z170, but the Z170 Chipset is the only one, where there is a 9 instead of a 8 at the End of the Name. I hope someone can help me here. Sorry for my bad english.
Ouch! This is not good! Replacing the BGA chip is not an easy task without the needed logic board rework station to preheat the board and the temp temp plate for the chip heater. You also have a bit of underfill which also needs to be removed and the rest of the board needs to be protected from the heavy heat you’ll be applying. To be clear this is not a DIY job! As far as the PCH chip, I haven’t tried replacing this series and I’m not sure if the newer Z170 chip is compatible with the CPU’s in this series. You will need to contact Intel and get clarification from them. Given the PCH cost and the needed tools as well as labor needed I think you would end up spending more than just getting a replacement logic board. Depending on what your system has it might be a great time to upgrade with the CPU or the GPU.
