Hi, so my partners MacBook worked fine earlier today. I cleaned out the USB-C port, tried different cables then held shift-control-option and the power button together (SMC reset) but it still won’t charge and is only showing that the battery is in the red?

Most probably your partners battery just have been discharged too much and went to the coma state. Letting it charge for a while before powering the system up should do the trick.
