Chosen Solution
A couple months back I dropped my M8 from shopping-cart height onto the hard store floor. It fell flat on its face (no corner impact), and I was ecstatic to pick it up unharmed – yay case! But, a couple weeks later, the screen began to warp up, indicating the battery was beginning to bloat, so, not undamaged after all. By the time the replacement battery arrived, the bloat was fairly significant, and, despite following the teardown instructions carefully (especially where it said “be careful, we tore the ribbon cable so you don’t have to”), I still managed to tear the tiny, 1/4"-wide, tissue-paper- thin section of ribbon connecting the screen. The replacement is due to arrive in a few days, and I’m wondering whether any harm can come from reinforcing this section of ribbon, so any future work would be less likely to cause damage? I’m thinking of sandwiching the ribbon between two layers of the Kapton tape – good? bad? As a secondary question, is there any way to verify the screen I receive is genuine Gorilla glass? Any markings to look for? any discreet non-damaging tests? Also, my original screen is undamaged, is it feasible to only switch out the ribbon and keep my screen? or is that hardwired and impossible? Well i have an i5 ,and i have a lot of confidence about repairing my device , so i take it apart for small problems by my self …anyways… I was thinking like you and ive done that on my ribben cable (flex cable) of lcd + touch cable Lcd cable is tough (hard ) and touch is soft very soft Lcd cables is already sandwiched btw two copper surfaces that prevent noice in the picture, and if you want the truth…tape didnt save my lcd cable from seprating :/ flex cable has a crack in the center now and theres no picture…. So tape methud doesnt work on lcd andddd touch cable as i said is. very soft and flexible that does not need extra protection (unless you cut it somehow). I cant answer your second question cause i dont know about geniue parts (honestly i dont think its gorilla acually maybe a good glass ,if it was second handed yep)
