My A1707 MacBook Pro (late 2016 w/ Touch Bar) has a sticking space bar. Apple tried cleaning it, but didn’t help. Took it to the Apple store, and they said you have to replace the entire top plate, which I guess I was prepared to do. Then after a couple of weeks in the shop, they called back and said the moisture meter was tripped and so it had moisture damage, and they need to replace a bunch of other stuff, and it would now be $1,400. All for a space bar that sticks. They won’t just replace the keyboard or top plate, they simply refuse to do anything less than the $1,400 repair. So I picked up the computer, and am living with the sticking space bar. Annoying, but everything else works fine. I made a few calls to see if a third party could assist, but they both told me they can’t get the parts– too new, apple won’t sell to them. Check back in a few years… So before I wasted too much more time, I thought I would post to see if this is true, and if there’s any way to get the parts and just replace the keyboard or even the entire top plate.
Did you spill something into the keyboard or sit the system down on a wet surface? If not then I think you need to go back and speak with the manager and then if that gets you nowhere talk to the regional service manager. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease! If on the other hand you did spill something then I think your goose is cooked ;-{ Apple maybe the best way to get the uppercase replaced. So far getting the parts for these systems is very difficult and expensive! Most are from systems which are torn down for parts so you pay though the nose. If other parts are damaged then that adds to the costs and you might be down for quite a few weeks.
