I have a generic 10.1” Android tablet with a cracked touch screen, (the LCD itself is fine.) I’m looking to order a replacement touch screen for it but the problem is it’s a generic tablet. I have looked all over the device for some kind of model number or anything, and there are no such markings. I can’t check the info in the tablet’s settings because of the cracked touch screen. Could someone please point me to a replacement 10.1” replacement touch screen that would work with a generic tablet?
Hi @startropic1 , Getting a replacement touchscreen may not be easy as you would have to know what the original was first or at least the make and model number of the tablet. This is because they aren’t all the same, even though they may have the same dimensions. The wiring may be different and even if the same number of wires were used between the screen and the systemboard they may not use the same numbered wire for the same function. If there are no markings on the outside of the tablet then you may have to open the tablet and check for some on the inside. Check for any info on the touchscreen’s flex cable and if there is any then search for it. Alternatively you may be lucky and that the tablet supports OTG (on the go). If it does you can connect a USB mouse via a suitable OTG adapter (example only) and use it to navigate through the tablet to hopefully find out the model number information etc. Usually this is found in Settings > About. If you have an old USB cable and mouse you can make one yourself. Here’s an image to show how it is wired.
(click on image to enlarge for better viewing) If the tablet has a pin number you can try first with a USB keyboard to enter the pin number and then change to a mouse but it doesn’t work all the time with keyboards. Also if you have a pattern lock this won’t work at all. Be aware that the mouse will operate on the tablet’s battery so it will discharge a lot quicker than normal when using it so maybe have a fully charged battery before you start ;-)
