Need to replace the sound card for the x555LA. Which sound card is compatible and has the integrated USB port and 3.5 jack?
The small board is called an X555LD Board and also controls the hard drive. The Realtek sound Chip is also on this board and has died. You will need to order a new one. Price on eBay is $30-$65 for the board but if you know how to use a hot air soldering iron then the actual Realtek Chips and only a few dollars and you can do it yourself for much less. Or maybe you can take the new chip and board to a shop and get a technician to do it? There is a known issue with this model and thousands had this same issue! My belief is that the sound chip is too small to drive the speakers and heats up and eventually dies quickly? There are several revisions of this board so make sure you get the correct revision that fits your ASUS laptop. You can get to the board by removing the screws on the bottom of the laptop. With the laptop facing up and prying the silver plastic top away from the black plastic bottom section, the board is kind of “L” shaped on the bottom right hand side of the laptop. The headphone jack is close to the board but is not on it. You also need to be careful lifting the top off because there are two buss cables that are hard to get back on if they are pulled on to hard. There is enough room to take the old X555LD board and put a new one in if you are careful. Time is about 30 minutes if you take your time and are being careful! Difficulty is about a 3 out of 10, not that hard. There are only 3-4 tiny screws to removing that board. It’s always good to mark were the old screws went with a felt tip pen because there are extra holes on this board that aren’t used and you want to get the screws back into the same holes too!
Hi, i don’t know that model very well, but most of the time the sound card is integrated on the main board ( on board).. You say the integrated usb and 3.5 jack do you mean a seperate main board? like i sayed i cant find a picture of the hole main board. Kind regards Kevin
Dont know if you have this sorted but I have the same problem. I’ve tried everything apart from replacing the soundcard itself. I have an external soundcard instead which works and sounds much better, you can pick one up for about £50-£100. You can get ones a lot more expensive but that is more for music prodution. You would need to buy speakers too, but in the long run (if you plan on sticking with the laptop) it would work out better than changing the soundcard everytime it burns out.
I had same issue in X555L of Asus. I added the legacy hardware and my problem is resolved. Go to Action on Device manager. Click add legacy hardware. Click on Search for and Install automatically. Select the Audio Manufacturer as Microsoft and enjoy.
Does this board controll also the USB port that is next to the headphone jacks? Because on my computer neither work. I was thinking of opening the computer to see if there was something disconnected, but if it’s got something to do with the chip itself I don’t believe I can fix it without a replacement
