I recently bought a second hand replacement macbook pro retina display A1398 LATE 2013. from a reputable mac pars shop online. but unfortunately the insight connector is different. its very annoying as it took me a while to get it, they will accept returns, but i did get it for a good price and decent second hand pro retina screens are hard to come by. it is strange because it is the same A number and should be compatible.
. i have checked the serial number specs on the apple website and also on everymac , both say the information I have is correct, but it spec doesn’t include information on the Isight connection. is there anyway around this? can I swap the connector out? or any other work around? everything else is as it should be.
Sorry you got the wrong part! This is the needed part MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Display Assembly, Apple P/N 661-8310 which has the wide iSight camera line.
Instead you got the older MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Early 2013) Display Assembly, Apple P/N 661-7171 which has a smaller iSight camera connection. And its not sought after hence the cheaper price.
The 2015 is still the most loved MacBook every made! Parts are harder to get and even more expensive! Sadly, you can’t retrofit one for the other as the displays data signals are also different! Yes, Apple altered things three times just within the A1398 lineup.
