Hi, I replaced my laptop battery with an ifixit one. I callibrated it and reset the SMC, as it was blanking/going to sleep really quickly. That seemed to fix it for a day or two, but now I’m literally plugged in, working, and my laptop randomly went to sleep, just suddently black-screened me. Anyone know why this is happening? Should I try going back to the previous battery or is there something else I can reset? Thanks! Update (07/06/2020) Thanks Cory - here are the screenshots.
Please let me know what to do :) Doesn’t look like those screengrabs worked. Computer actually just shut off entirely while on battery power and I lost an hour’s work.
Quick question; did this symptom occur even before replacing your battery? Here’s what you can try: Navigate to About This Mac and open System Report. On the left side of the window that appears there will be a scrollable column where you will find a section called Power, click that. This will give you more information about the new battery, take a screenshot of it and post here. With a new battery, you should expect a very low number of charge cycles and its condition should read “Normal.” If you calibrated it correctly, it should have an accurate reading of “Full charge capacity” too. This is an important follow-up procedure after installing a new battery because it will verify that you received a good unit. EDIT: I should also mention we are looking at the amperage and voltage of the new battery as well. All of these units are tested before shipment, so I doubt it is the issue but still a possibility that needs to be ruled out. Once verified, I would check your Energy Saver settings located in System Preferences, as these settings handle the machine’s sleep/wake conditions.
Katherine I think you’ll find doing this is a lot easier and will offer a better view. Install this gem of an app CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window posting it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question
I’m having the same issue. New battery from iFixit still on first cycle. Running Mojave 10.14.6
I had the same problem and ifixit sent me another one that works. Seems like they are selling quite a few defective batteries. Since then (2y) I had very rare cases where my MacBook randomly shut off but the battery times in general are good.
