Hi Guys - got me stumped with this iphone 8 - customer said it just turned off while kid was in car with it. Opened it up and smelt a pretty strong electrical burn. Tested with new battery , screen, charge port - wont respond to anything assuming logic board replacement. Any thoughts ? Thanks :) Also best place to get logic board + touch ID from reputable source ?
Was it plugged into a car charger? If yes you are most likely looking at a bad charging chip (U2 Tristar). This can be confirmed by plugged the phone into a DC bench power supply (with the use of a power squid or similar) and seeing if there is around 0.17A being drawn and not turning on or turning on fine and charging. Otherwise it may be something worse like the tigris chip / PMIC (Power Management chip). These will require someone with micro-soldering experience to replace said chips. Definitely go for this option if you are thinking of board replacements because I don’t trust online sellers because of Network / iCloud / IMEI block risks and the possibility of getting a partially-working board.
