Chosen Solution
I replaced the battery, and the 20GB spinny drive with the CF-SD card adapter. Before closing up, I though of checking to make sure it works. Well, it shows black screen with white Apple logo, then switches to the sad face and flashes the low battery icon - and repeats the process. I have checked the CF adapter connection and made sure that the pin marked as Pin 1 is aligned correctly. The reset (Menu + Select) does not seem to work. At present, the ipod is connected to the Firewire wall charger. I am wondering what my options are…. :)
First of all, let’s try a new battery from iFixit. Getting a battery elsewhere is a roll of the dice as iFixit only sells quality parts. And by the way sorry for not responding to you sooner!
