The optical drive on a PS4 I bought faulty (knowingly, with aim to fix it) doesn’t accept any discs. I have tried putting a game and a blu ray straight into the drive using the eject screw then turning on the console. As you see in the video linked -https://imgur.com/a/tyHL5Hf it makes this sound for a while. It doesn’t load up and I get a disc read error on the PS4. It also seemed to have messed around with the blu ray disk aswell when playing it on another console. A new optical drive costs a lot, but just a new laser lens not so much. How do I know if I need the full drive replaced or if just the laser lens replaced?? Thanks
Which model of the PS4 do you have? Under the PS4 there is a black label with a barcode and model of the PS4. The model code starts with CUH-xxxx. Andrew Paul has a number of YouTube videos explaining how to diagnose and fix this problem. From experience these can range from a lot of things.
