As the question states, but….. customer has a faulty HDD and it is been replaced with a new shiny SSD. i cannot migrate the user data from all the accounts because 2 of them have file vault enabled. i was under the impression that FV encrypts the entire drive not individual user accounts. when the migrate data window appears showing the user accounts to select, two of the users are marked as encrypted and cannot transfer the data. can i disable FV from these accounts if i cannot load into them?
The only way I was able to get around a multiple user account setup was to boot up under the drive with the old drive still connected with the new drive (Option key on boot), and then logging in user that I need to salvage the data under, then using Migration Assistant moving the users data across. If you want to break the encryption you’ll need to access File Vault under that account to undo it.
from my experience i haven’t been able to get past that. Even with the HDD being faulty its tough to get the data off regardless. File vault will even stop you from manually doing a data transfer through terminal outside of the os. Its a pain.
