We have a Maytag MBF2255KEW with the bottom drawer freezer. Both suddenly stopped cooling yesterday, uneventfully (just went to grab milk and it didn’t feel as cold as usual.) It sounds like the fans are running constantly. We cleaned the coils underneath the fridge last night but still isn’t cooling this morning. Any ideas of what it could be? Update (04/19/2022)

@jayeff we did come across this when we took the freezer panel off. It doesn’t look like this is the factory set up. This fridge was here when we bought our house so not really sure what maintenance it might have had at some point. Figured I’d include just incase it’s helpful.

Hi @family209 , Can you hear if the compressor motor is running? To check if the evaporator fan in the freezer is running try manually operating/releasing the door switch in either the refrigerator compartment door jamb or the freezer compartment door jamb and check if you can hear the evap fan start and stop. The fan will not run with a door open (either door) but by operating a door switch it fools the control board into thinking that the door is closed and to turn the fan on. If you try the freezer first then you may also be able to feel the cold air being blown into the compartment by the fan, when the switch is operated. The fan is located behind a panel, inside at the back of the freezer compartment. The fan will run as long as the compressor motor is also running. Do not confuse this fan with the condenser fan which is outside the compartments, underneath near the compressor. It can run at anytime regardless of the doors being opened or closed. If you can’t hear the evaporator fan, then it may be faulty or it is iced up and cannot run due to an auto defrost problem. A defrost problem could be due to a faulty defrost heater, faulty defrost thermostat, faulty evap fan power supply, blocked drain pipe leading from under the evap unit to the evap pan under the refrigerator or worst case, a faulty control board. Here’s the 16026956 Maytag Bottom Mount Refrigerator Tech Sheet that may help. It details how to get into the service test modes so that all the functions can be tested.
