I have a very old iPhone 3GS running 6.1.6. I recently accidentally deleted a few pictures from that. There are no iTunes or iCloud backups. I tried using Aiseesoft’s Fonelab software to restore deleted files. I followed the on screen instructions. The iPhone enter recovery mode. It tells me: “Communicating with your iOS device for scan, please wait…” The progress bar is stuck at 0% for a few moments, before Fonelab tells me “failed to enter the scanning mode due to the loss of connection or timeout”. Is there anything I can do to recover the photos? Either with Aiseesoft or other software?

If the photos have been deleted and you don’t have a backup I don’t think there’s much hope. I’ve been using an app called iExplore. https://macroplant.com/iexplorer It should allow you to see everything on the device. I think it’s free to try for a bit. Good luck.

If you have not written new data on your iPhone, there’s still a chance to get back the photos. Among various software, I have used one named Bitwar Data Recovery. It provides a free trial, so you can have a try.
